Chalcedony is a microcrystalline structure ore associated with the quartz, the same chemical formula as this (as well as other minerals that are related to the quartz). Traditionally considered a variety of quartz, more recently it has been found that it is actually a mixture of quartz moganita, similarly but monoclinic chemical formula, producing the banded mixture typical of some varieties of Chalcedon.
