Saint Seiya: Episode G – Assassin (聖闘士星矢EPISODE・G~アサシン~ Seinto Seiya Episōdo Jī Asashin ) is a sequel to the manga Saint Seiya: Episode G, written by Megumu Okada.
It was serialized between April 5, 2014, and August 27, 2019, first on the magazine Champion Red Ichigo and then on Champion Cross, later renamed Manga Cross. Its 118 chapters were compiled into 16 volumes by Akita Shoten. The first was published on October 20, 2014, and the last on December 20, 2019. The volumes include brief humorous comic strips that often break the fourth wall. Certain volumes also include bonus chapters.
Production[]
At the end of Saint Seiya: Episode G, Pontos suggests that he will continue working against the Saints of Athena, using newly discovered power. Subsequently, a new project between Masami Kurumada and Megumu Okada was announced.
Megumu Okada tweeted the following message: 下書きが終わる気配がまるで無いいつになったら終わるのかページが多かったなぁだかしかしやらねばならぬ( '· ω · `)... That is: "There is no sign that the draft is done. When will it be done? I guess there are a lot of pages but I have much to do ( '· ω ·`) ".
During a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Masami Kurumada as mangaka, Kurumada invited Okada to continue writing Episode G after a pleasant meeting. Okada accepted and, in December 2013, announced on Twitter that the Episode G sequel would start in April 2014.
Plot[]
The story begins some time between before the beginning of the story of Saint Seiya. Cocteau, an Oracle of Athena, appears before Capricorn Shura and tasks him with a secret mission that is to take place in Japan and that will require him to abandon Sanctuary. Shura accepts and is transported to the future. Leo Aiolia chases after Shura to kill him, believing that the Capricorn Saint has become a traitor.
In the future, they meet and end up protecting a young woman known as Yoshino Hino, who is the target of a group of murderers known as the Faceless. The Faceless work alongside another group known as the Gladiators, which includes famous figures and heroes from various mythologies who carry sacred swords. They engage Shura in the War of Sacred Swords to see who among them has the strongest sword. The victor is expected to win a great treasure.
Shura and Aiolia also meet the adult Bronze Saints, the heroes of Saint Seiya, who integrate the next generation of Gold Saints. They determine that it is possible that Shura and Aiolia have not only traveled to the future, but also to a parallel universe that is in the middle of a war with an alternate reality known as the Lost World. Sagittarius Aiolos then reveals himself to be the enemy leader of the Sanctuary of the Lost World, who staged the War of Sacred Swords to choose his Sanctuary's Gold Saints from among the Gladiators after his world was devastated by Zeus.
