History[]
The Fornax constellation was named after the Latin word for Furnace by French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1756. Despite sharing a name with a Roman goddess, the constellation has no mythological origins.

In Chinese astronomy, constellation Fornax lies within The White Tiger of the West (西方白虎, Xī Fāng Bái Hǔ).
