Hayate is a German Shepherd dog that Pegasus Seiya borrows from the police to track the stolen pieces of the Golden Cloth of Sagittarius, which smelled like Phoenix Ikki.

Apparently this version of Hayate is a tribute to Hayate in the Shiroi Senshi Yamato manga. In the manga Hayate is Karelian Bear Dog, a breed with a very close nose, who was inadequate as a pet.
