Hræsvelgr Baldr (フレースヴェルグのバルドル, Furēsuverugu no Barudoru) is one of new seven God Warriors who protects Asgard and serves Andreas.

Appearance[]

Baldr is a young man with a slight androgenous appearance. He has long grey hair and maroon eyes. His God Cloth is mainly a metallic blue color with gold trimmings and a sapphire gem in the center of the chest plate. Because of his belief of being a god and being immune to feeling pain, Baldr sometimes has an arrogant expression.

Personality[]

Baldr is a calm and intelligent man who even Andreas consults in difficult situations due to his knowledge. However, he can become pretty angry when he is insulted, as seen in his fight with Virgo Shaka who told him his power wasn't given to him by Odin. Baldr went mad over that statement which led to his downfall. He also shows no mercy before his opponents and has been fighting in Asgard's colosseum since he was a child.

In his childhood before he received the blessing, Baldr was described to be a very kind and pure hearted boy who wished to be stronger only so that he could protect those around him but once he obtained a stronger body and new powers he changed his views and deemed helping those who suffer to be beneath him, even letting his loyal dog suffer and die as he journeyed to find a place worthy of his new abilities. Since becoming a warrior, his personality changed from kind and caring to cold and merciless, having lost his ability to feel compassion for others and their suffering when he was blessed.

Background[]

Baldr describes his childhood to Shaka during their battle. He details how he had been born in one of the poorest villages in Asgard. With the villagers growing ill, Baldr only had his pet dog at his side when he tried to help give what supplies he could to those who were unable to help. Despite his best efforts, Baldr was rather feeble himself and was not able to do as much as he wanted. He saw the villagers continue to suffer and eventually pass away which upset him greatly. Wanting to do more to help those around him, Baldr pleaded before a statue of Odin to become stronger. A force granted him his wish to become stronger but in the process he became cold in demeanor as he was unaware his compassion was taken to grant the blessing and he soon left behind those who depended on him to become a warrior as he felt his new abilities put him above worrying of others.

Battles[]

Baldr first appeared in Episode 4 when the God Warriors were gathered by Andreas. He briefly appeared with the other God Warriors just before the battles against the Gold Saints to destroy the chamber statues each God Warrior protected and received an Odin Sapphire that amplified their powers.

He then appeared in Episode 8 when he fought Shaka in Alfheim, the chamber he protects in Yggdrasill. There, he revealed to Shaka how he and his fellow villagers suffered until he became an immortal god after receiving a blessing from Odin. But instead of helping like he wanted, he turned his back on those who needed him to become a warrior as he believed his new divine abilities should not be wasted on those who were suffering. Shaka then revealed to him that Loki was the one who really gave Baldr his blessing which gave him such power and the physical advantage of not feeling pain. In the end, Baldr was defeated, regretting his decisions and having his blessing removed, leading to his death in Shaka's arms.

Abilities[]

Since being granted the blessing during childhood, Baldr was unable to feel pain or be killed. Entering the world of fighting at a young age, Baldr came to understand fighting techniques and strategy to the point that even Andreas would seek his advice. With the blessing, Baldr could no longer feel pain or be killed.

However, when he lost the blessing in the fight against Shaka, all of the pain his body suffered during the years hit him all at once.

Relationships[]

  • Virgo Shaka: When they first met, Baldr viewed Shaka as being beneath him due to his reputation of being known as the man closest to God while he himself was known by his people as an actual deity. During their fight, he refused to believe what Shaka told him about the true source of his blessing but eventually accepted that the Virgo saint was being truthful. Even after everything he'd done, Baldr found a kind mercy from Shaka when the saint dulled his sense of touch so that he would not suffer in his final moments.
