Kōgetsuki (紅月姫, Kōgetsuki) is a character from the manga spin-off "Saint Seiya: Meiō Iden - Dark Wing". She is the Libra Gold Saint and is part of the twelve Gold Saints, the elite warriors within the army of the goddess Athena. She guards the Libra Temple in the Sanctuary of Athena.

When Cattleya Mikagami awakens as the goddess Athena and moves to the Sanctuary, the first Saint to receive her is Kōgetsuki. She gives him a brief explanation of where she is and her role as Athena, as well as helping her prepare for her presentation to the Gold Saints and the Pope. During the presentation, when the Gold Saints express their opinion about Athena, Kōgetsuki offers to be Cattleya’s instructor, committing herself to educate her and prepare her for the battle ahead.

Appearance[]

She is a young, fair-skinned adult with long black hair that reaches the middle of her back. She usually combs her hair in a way that leaves her forehead uncovered, with a banged hairline to the left side. In addition, she picks up the back of her hair in two half-folded pigtails, which are fastened with ribbons. Unlike other female characters in this series, Kōgetsuki is remarkably tall, almost as tall as Sōjirō. She also has an impressive figure, something that Cattleya points out when she first sees her.

Personality[]

Kōgetsuki personifies the ideal image of a Saint of Athena, showing loyalty to her goddess and exceptional human values. One of his most notable traits is his remarkable patience in explaining and helping others, which is demonstrated when he offers to support and educate Cattleya.

History[]

Past[]

Five years before the start of the Holy War against Hades, Kōgetsuki, along with Ain, is part of the special training that Tristan designed for Eulalia and Vassilios, so she shows up at the Sanctuary Coliseum to train with Eulalia, who, upon seeing her, is surprised that she will be his opponent. In the face of this, Kōgetsuki asks him to follow her, assuring him that he will not make training easy for him. Although Eulalia is surprised to learn that it will begin at the same time, he decides to follow Kōgetsuki to train with her in one of the regions that Tristan had prepared.

The awakening of the goddess[]

After awakening as the goddess Athena and being transferred to the Sanctuary, Cattleya receives a visit from Kōgetsuki in her room. She explains where she is and the responsibilities that she will have to assume as Athena, in addition to helping her dress up and prepare for her presentation to the Gold Saints and the Pope [1].

Kōgetsuki accompanies Cattleya to the Pope’s chamber, where he asks her to wait until she is called and then leaves. Once she enters, Cattleya is greeted by the Pope and the Gold Saints, among whom is Kōgetsuki, wearing the Libra Cloth. After observing Athena’s behavior, the Gold Saints begin to express their opinions about her. Some have a favourable opinion, while others consider her too inexperienced. In response, Kōgetsuki offers to educate her. Then the Pope continues with the presentation, until Cattleya declares that he will not allow anyone to die in the next battle. These words are considered naive by Theseus, but he admits that he wishes he could make them a reality. Kōgetsuki responds by saying that Cattleya could make a difference.

At nightfall, Kōgetsuki and Sōjirō watch Cattleya from outside her room and take the opportunity to talk about her. Kōgetsuki comments that he can sense that Cattleya is a strong person, even though she has not yet fully awakened as Athena. Sōjirō replies that it has always been so, as Cattleya tends to keep her problems to herself and recovers on her own. Then, Sōjirō tells her that he has always done everything possible for her, but if it doesn’t bother him, he will now leave her in the hands of Kōgetsuki, as he believes she is the reason why Cattleya has managed to stay strong at that time [1].

As Sōjirō retreats, Kōgetsuki begins to experience a strange sensation. Remembering the incident that Athena suffered on board the ship, she remembers that this accident dealt a heavy blow to the troops of Hades, but also heard that, at the same instant, a powerful cosmos appeared at the bottom of the sea. However, What worries him most is that he remembers the meeting of the Gold Saints was attended by all twelve, which seems strange to him, since it should not be so. So he begins to hold his aching head and wonder if his memories have been altered in some way and who could have done it. After this, Kōgetsuki proclaims that despite the confusion she feels, she is determined to protect Athena no matter what.

The mission of the king of the Underworld[]

The Sanctuary remains calm for a few months, until the Specters, by order of Hades, carry out an attack on Athena, whom they blame for the destruction of the Underworld. In the middle of this attack, Shōichirō, Zhu and Yoruhime confront Sōjirō and Cattleya, but stop the confrontation when they discover that Athena was not guilty of the destruction of the Underworld and that the true enemy was the evil god Demiurgos. Upon the arrival of the Saints, who have become aware of the presence of the Specters, Cattleya and Sōjirō make a decision to protect Shōichirō and his companions, throwing them into Another Dimension before they reach the Temple of Athena. Soon after, the Pope, Eulalia and Kōgetsuki enter the Temple, where they only find Sōjirō and Cattleya. Eulalia angrily asks them what has happened, while the Pope questions Sōjirō if it was an attack by the Specters, which he confirms and indicates that he destroyed them with his Another Dimension .

Abilities[]

  • As a Saint he can control the energy known as cosmos.
  • The Saints have the power to tear the sky with their fists and break the earth with their kicks.
  • Like Gold Saint, he can travel and fight at the speed of light (300,000 kilometers per second) and, thanks to the Gold Cloth he wears, he can withstand the cold down to -273.15°C, that is, absolute zero.

Notes[]

  • She is the eldest of two women holding the title of Gold Saint in Saint Seiya: Dark Wing.
  • She is the first woman to hold the title of Saint de Libra in the Saint Seiya franchise. In addition, she and Scorpio Eulalia are the first women in a manga franchise to hold the rank of Gold Saint within the army of Athena.
  • Kōgetsuki’s role as Cattleya’s assistant and instructor is similar to that of the Saintias in Saintia Shō, which has led some fans to speculate whether she is a Saintia. However, it is unknown if this concept exists in the Dark Wing universe.
