Lynx Jaō (やまねこ座 (リンクス)のジャオウ, Rinkusu no Jaō) is a character from the film Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth. He is a Corona Saint serving the God Phoebus Abel.

History[]

Jaō first appears along with the other two Corona Saints Coma Berenices and Carina Atlas when Saori Kido, the current incarnation of Athena is at Abel's residence, also encountering the Bronze Saints. After Athena's failed attempt to assassinate Abel and her death, he briefly fights Capricorn Shura whilst Berenices faces Aquarius Camus and both quickly kill the Gold Saints with their combined attacks. He later faces Gemini Saga after Saga was fatally wounded by Seiya's Seventh Sense Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken, with Saga telling Seiya he would stay and fight with Jaō so Seiya could continue his attempt to save Athena. Jaō initially underestimates Saga for his wounded condition, but Saga manages to place him in a hold and launch a Galaxian Explosion at close range, killing them both instantly.

Cloth and Constellation[]

Lynx Cloth: The Lynx is among the constellation Ursa Major and Auriga, first appeared in 1687 in the catalog of the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius. It is called so because, according to Hevelius, you must have eyes to see the constellation Lynx, so no mythological aspect.

Fighting Skills[]

Hércules

Shining Hell Claw by Jaō

Shining Hell Claw (シャイニング・ヘルクロウ, Shainingu Heru Kurō): Jaō focuses his cosmo, creating a capsule similar to the fiery energy of the sun around his body. Then Jaō could break up the enemy in super speed, while the capsule of this energy that is around him takes the form of a lynx in flames. The impact of the blow is so strong that even the Gold Saints Shura and Camus were instantly killed by it (albeit, after being paralyzed by Berenices' Golden Death Hair). Jaō can also shoot the lynx in flames over his opponent.

Trivia[]

  • The Corona Cloth of Lynx has nothing to do with the Cloth of Lynx worn by Lynx Retsu. Although Apollo's Corona Saints wear Cloths inspired to the constellations, they have nothing to do with the Cloths worn by Athena's Saints. It can be inferred either that there can be 88 Saints loyal to Athena and 88 Corona Saints loyal to Abel, or that the Corona Cloths filling out the 4 missing Cloths not Bronze, Silver or Gold is exclusively to the Toei film continuity.
  • The method in which Jaō is killed by Saga with the Galaxian Explosion is very similar to how Saga's brother Gemini Kanon would kill Wyvern Rhadamanthys along with him self through a close-range Galaxian Explosion in the Hades Arc, with it being possible Masami Kurumada drew inspiration from the film.
