Pegasus Kōga (天馬座ペガサスの光牙, Pegasasu no Kōga) is the Bronze Saint of the Pegasus constellation and the main protagonist in Saint Seiya Omega. Koga can use the element of Light but his real Cosmo element is Darkness. After Abzu's defeat, Koga's true Cosmo element is now Light although it is heavily implied that Darkness still resides within him.

Personality[]

He hates to lose, so he is always struggling, despite having a big heart. He never gives up and protects his friends, no matter what happens to himself, is very sentimental, but does not want to show it in public. He has a strong rebellious spirit at first, but also has a sharp understanding of most any given situation, making him a good leader.

Chronology (Mars-Hen)[]

Childhood[]

The newborn Kouga and Aria were found at the site of the crater having been bathed in Darkness and Light Cosmos. Kido Saori managed to take Kouga while Mars grabbed Aria. Realizing that the baby boy would have a harsh destiny because of the Darkness Cosmo inside of him, she decided to raise and bathe him in her own Light Cosmo in hopes that it would lead the child to a better future.

Several months after being born, as the baby Kôga learned how to walk, Mars returned, clad in a new armor called "Galaxy", to take Athena. In her effort to protect the child, Kido Saori was wounded by Mars' Darkness which prevented her from properly burning her own Cosmo, however before the God of War could take her, Seiya arrived to save them both. The young Kouga watched in awe as Mars and Seiya fought each other with all they had, ending up with the former severely wounded and the latter no where to be found.

Training to become a Saint[]

Kouga was raised by Saori on a remote island along with Tatsumi and Ophiuchus Shaina (Omega). Despite the young man's unwillingness, Kouga spent a good portion of his young life going through the rigorous training to

become a Saint. Dissatisfied with what he felt was a future he had never chosen, Kouga started to question why did he needed to protect Athena, unaware that he was talking about Saori, and even made light of the sacrifice that Sagittarius Seiya made for him many years ago. Aware of the young man's troubling thoughts, Saori tried her best to sooth his mind by telling him that becoming a Saint will give Kouga the strength to protect what's precious to him. Kouga is still not convinced, but comments about having a dream of a man covered in gold and wonder if that was Seiya. At this Saori tells Kouga that things will become clear to him once he becomes a Saint and gives him her pendant saying that it is a very precious item.

Koga first confrontation with Mars[]

Unfortunately, the moment is cut short by the arrival of Mars, who has spent the last 13 years recuperating from his fight with Seiya and has now return to take Athena. In an effort to protect Kouga, Saori reveals herself as Athena to him, but the Darkness Wound Mars inflicted years prior prevents her from properly using her Cosmo. Shaina arrives and tries to fight Mars, but she is quickly defeated by the God of Wars. At that point, Kouga desperation to protect Saori causes the pendant to react and grant the young man the Pegasus Cloth Stones, surprising Mars as he sees a shadow of Seiya in the boy. Clad in the Pegasus Cloth, Kouga has a vision of Seiya guiding him to burn his Cosmo, which allows the new Saint to unleash a powerful Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken that manages to push Mars' Cosmo back.

Sadly, Kouga's new found power was not strong enough and Mars immediately regained the upper-hand, beating Koga and destroying a large portion of the island in the processes. The next day, Kouga informs Shaina that he is planning to leave the island and search for Saori. Shaina accepts the boy's wishes, saying that the Pegasus Clothstone, the pendant Saori left him, will surely show him the way. Tatsumi then takes Kouga to the mainland and bids him far-well. Soon after setting out, a young man recognizes Kouga's pendant as a Clothstone and excitedly as if he's a Saint as well.

The search for Saori[]

Taken by surprise, Kouga reacts aggressively at the newcomer which leads to a small confrontation, ending with Kouga being coincidentally knocked out. Once Kouga regains consciousness, the young man presents himself as Lionet Sōma and ask for redhead's name and title, showing great surprise when he find out that Kouga inherited the Pegasus Clothstone which used to belong to the Legendary Saint, Seiya. After Souma briefly explains why the Elemental Cosmo works, Kouga tells his new friend about his journey to find Athena.

Souma is not ready to believe the redhead and decides to check a place where Athena was suppose to be living in, unknowingly taking Kouga back to the island. Not being able to find any news about Athena's whereabouts, Souma decides that there might be some truth to Pegasus Saint's story and decides to take him to a place where they are sure to find out the truth about Athena, the school of Saint, the Palaestra. As the two young Saints start to make their way to the school, the get attack by the Martian, a member of Mars' forces,Mantis Ordykia who manages to capture them both in his Darkness Cosmo. However, Kouga manages to awake his own Light Cosmo to dispel the Martian's and give Souma an opening to attack and defeat Ordykia.

Training at Palestra[]

Koga arrives to the Palaestra, guided by Geki and his disciple Lionet Souma. There he is greeted by Saint apprentices, who first approach him with hostility. Also, Koga meets Aquila Yuna, the young female Saint, who teaches him about his constellation and about the code that guides Saint women.

Ryuhou, the son of the legendary Bronze Saint Dragon Shiryū, returns to the Palaestra after a short absence. The young Saint apprentices are subjected to a strict training to master their Cosmo element. Koga is later forced to battle Ryuhou in an intense element-to-element duel.

The young Bronze Saints are taken by Bear Geki to the Hell Camp, which is full of lethal traps composed of the elements of Cosmo. Those who survive the Camp are illegible to become Silver Saints. Koga and Souma must work together to overcome the obstacles, all while Souma must avoid fellow Saint Argo's hostility and haunting memories of his past.

Saints Fight[]

Koga manages to attain his first victory after a tense battle, thanks to Souma's advice; all while his fellow Saints remain intrigued about the seemingly enormous power of Orion Eden. The Saint Fights tournament continues. Geki and Koga bond more while the former teaches the young Saint about the mysteries of Cosmo, and reminisces about his defeat at the hands of Seiya years ago. In the tournament, Yuna triumphs over Delphinus Güney, and Koga and Souma are pitted against each other in battle. As both are driven by strong motivations, Koga draws more strength from the memories of Geki to narrowly achieve victory over his friend.

After his victory over Souma, Koga senses a familiar Cosmo approaching, which he recognizes as Athena's. Rushing to meet her, to his surprise, he finds not Athena, but a frail, fearful young girl, whom Capricorn Ionia reveals to be Athena's true self. Ionia also reveals his true allegiance, to Mars, and reveals their plans to a shocked Koga. After defeating the young Saint, Ionia leaves with the young girl, not before laying waste to the Palaestra, leaving it in ruins. Hours later, Koga awakens in Mars' Saint Prison, to be greeted by the mysterious Wolf Haruto.

The malevolent entity known as Mars invades Sanctuary, accompanied by Capricorn Ionia and the young girl they claim to be the new Athena. Mars then completely obliterates the millenia-old Sanctuary, replacing it with his very own fortress. Meanwhile, Koga manages to escape the Saint Prison with the help of Wolf Haruto, and after rejoining the other Bronze Saints, they set off together to invade Mars' headquarters, to rescue the young girl and to learn about the whereabouts of the true Athena

Techniques[]

  • Pegasus Ryūsei Ken (Pegasus Meteor Fist) : Kouga performs hundreds of punches at the same time which makes it look like small meteors. As Seiya's signature technique, Kouga first witnessed Seiya using it as a baby, and would learn this technique the first time he donned the Pegasus Cloth, instinctively performing it after seeing a vision of Seiya telling him to burn his Cosmo. Kouga has problems using this technique until Geki's words about how Seiya never giving up helped him to stand back up.
  • Pegasus Senkō Ken  (Pegasus Flash Fist): Kouga gathers his light cosmo into his fist and then punches his opponent with the charged energy. The impact lets out a blinding flash of light. A technique developed by Kouga himself during his fight with Ryuho after the Dragon Saint pushed him to fire up his Cosmo.
  • Pegasus Sui Sei Ken (Pegasus Comet Fist): Kouga charges up his light cosmo in his right hand and create a powerful homing ray of pure light.Kouga used it during his fight with Capricorn Ionia after he awakened to his seventh sense.
  • Pegasus Ryusei Ken (All elemental combined) : The same technique he used to delivered hundreds or more meteor punches to the opponents. But far more powerful. Thanks to Kouga's dark and light elements combined with other bronze's saints five elements (Fire, wind, thunder, earth, water) and raised the cosmos to reach seven senses, which was stored to his broken right hand. The hundred meteor punches is glowing bright orange auras despite the normal blue light meteor punch (normal Pegasus Ryusei ken). This techniques is used against Abzu at the end of the final battle.
  • Pegasus Rolling Crush : A new technique learned by Koga, he first immobilize his target physically then form a hurricane of light while rising through the air and then dropping his target on the head.

Trivia[]

  • Kouga is derived from the kanji "Hikari (光)" and "Kiba (牙)" which roughly means "light/holy" and "fang" respectively. This is ironic since horses, in reference to Pegasus, do not have fangs. However, the reason for its etymology is actually because, during his conception for Saint Seiya: Omega, he was originally going to be the Saint of Lupus (the Wolf) but was scrapped.
  • Kouga is the first known Pegasus Saint who was not a reincarnation of a previous one.
  • Like Seiya before him, Kouga was forced to use the Sagittarius cloth when the Pegasus cloth was too damaged to keep using, although his time wearing the cloth was considerably shorter, in addition to the cloth being already heavily damaged.
  • He is the second Saint to host a major antagonist. The first was Shun during the Hades Chapter, although unlike Shun, however, Koga was not Abzu's reincarnation.
  • Multiple fandoms had speculated, by the time Omega began, that Koga was the biological son of Seiya and Saori Kido. Although nothing in the anime has shown explicitly about the exact relationship between the three, some have even made evidence out of the fact that Koga's hair color (wine red) is actually a mixture of Seiya and Saori's own hair colors within the anime (brown and purple).
