Eulalia (エウラリア, Euraria) is a character from the manga spin-off "Saint Seiya: Meiō Iden - Dark Wing". She is the Scorpio Gold Saint and is part of the twelve Gold Saints, the elite warriors within the army of the goddess Athena. She guards the Scorpio Temple in the Sanctuary of Athena.

She is a strong-willed young woman who grew up and trained in the Sanctuary from an early age, with the aim of becoming an Athena Saint. From a young age, she used to spend time with Vassilios and Tristan, two children of her age who also trained in the Sanctuary to become Saints and with whom she developed a strong friendship, especially with Vassilios, with whom she shares some common tastes, as his passion for manga, anime and video games.

Appearance[]

Eulalia is an attractive young woman, with light skin and thin complexion, who wears a long blonde hair fastened with a ribbon. She is described as being of a similar age to Cattleya, which allowed her to enter Graad International University High School as a student.

Like many characters in this series, Eulalia has worn multiple outfits throughout the story.

When in the Sanctuary, it is common to see Eulalia wearing an elegant one-piece dress, beautifully decorated with elaborate engravings and embroideries on the fabric. Although all their dresses have a similar design, it is possible to notice that they vary in color and have unique details in the embroidery. Also, in each of her appearances, she wears a different dress, which suggests that she changes her outfit daily.

Personality[]

Eulalia initially presents herself as a young woman of strong character and behaves as if she is angry at all times. Especially when he interacts with Cattleya, whom from his point of view he considers an unreliable goddess and wishes that she behaves at the height of her position, criticizing her behavior while teaching her how a goddess should act.

Later, it is possible to appreciate more details of Eulalia’s personality than distance her considerably from that girl who used to be always upset. Although she retains her strong and proud character, she can now be seen as a more cheerful and friendly young woman when interacting and conversing with friends and people of trust.

It is explained that Eulalia considers her appearance as an educated and refined girl, who always wears elegant dresses, to be only a mask. Her true appearance is that of a warrior fighting for justice. However, even though she believes that she behaves like a polite girl, the truth is that on several occasions she unintentionally shows traits of her true personality and behavior, especially when she gets angry with someone or is excited.

Eulalia has a particular taste for Japanese culture, being a fan of manga and anime. Therefore, when he hears that they are looking for candidates for a mission in a Japanese school, he immediately offers.

Although Eulalia considers herself an expert in pretending to be a normal person, she is not really familiar with the outside world. From an early age, she grew up in the Sanctuary and everything she knows about everyday life is based on what she has seen in the entertainment media. Therefore, her behavior and her ignorance of the outside world lead her to make several mistakes unconsciously, which means that she cannot behave like a normal person even if she tries.

History[]

Childhood[]

Eulalia is a young woman who comes from a family of Saints with an impeccable record. She grew up and trained in the Sanctuary with Vassilios and Tristan, aiming to become a Saint in the service of Athena. This coexistence forged a strong friendship between the three, which continues to the present. During their childhood, Eulalia and Vassilios enjoyed many moments of fun and developed common interests over time because their personalities were similar.

The awakening of the goddess[]

When Cattleya first meets with the Gold Saints and the Pope at the Sanctuary, Eulalia is formed along with the other Gold Saints in the Pope’s chamber. Observing the young woman’s behavior, everyone expresses their opinions about Athena. Eulalia mentions that she is not satisfied with the inexperience of Cattleya, whom she considers an unreliable goddess. However, most of the Gold Saints have a more favorable opinion of her. After this, the Pope continues with the presentation, while most of the Gold Saints merely observe without intervening.

Several months have passed since Cattleya’s arrival at the Shrine. During this time, he has had the opportunity to meet the Gold Saints, among whom is Eulalia. On every occasion when Eulalia spends time with the young woman, she does not hesitate to point out the mistakes she makes, since her wish is that she becomes a trustworthy Athena.

The mission of the king of the Underworld[]

After Shōichirō, Zhu and Yoruhime traveled to the Shrine on Hades' orders, with the purpose of killing Athena, and during this mission they discovered the true responsible for the attack on the Underworld, Cattleya and Sōjirō protect Shōichirō and his companions by throwing them into the Another Dimension before the other Saints arrive at the Temple of Athena. Soon after, the Pope, Eulalia and Kōgetsuki arrived at the Temple. Eulalia, visibly angry, asked what had happened, while the Pope asked Sōjirō if the attack was the work of the Specters, which he confirmed and pointed out that he had defeated them using his Another Dimension.

The Awakening of Griffon[]

Sometime later, the Pope meets with Cattleya and some of the Gold Saints to discuss the appearance of an unusual cosmos and the mysterious disappearance of several female students at the Graad Academy, which they suspect is related to one of the Leaders of the Underworld. Since the missing are mostly women, Sōjirō suggests taking a woman with them and considers Kōgetsuki to be the best option. However, at that moment, Eulalia enters the Temple and tells Sōjirō that she would be better for this mission, arguing that she could pass herself off as a student because she is similar in age to Athena. Upon hearing this, Sōjirō asks her if she can behave like a normal girl, to which she replies that she is an expert in Japanese culture due to the knowledge she acquired through manga and anime. Sōjirō reacts with disbelief, but the Pope agrees to send her. Shortly after, they are joined by Vassilios, who, upon learning that Eulalia would be on this mission, offers to accompany them. The Pope therefore orders Sōjirō, Eulalia and Vassilios to carry out this mission.

So Eulalia, in the company of Vassilios and Sōjirō, travels to Japan for the purpose of entering the Graad Academy to investigate what is happening there. Upon arrival, he meets Shōichirō and Lucas, and hears how Sōjirō calls Shōichirō his "brother". Driven by her curiosity, Eulalia approaches Shōichirō and mentions that she had heard he was dead, to which he replies that it was a misunderstanding. Without giving it any importance, Eulalia simply expresses her joy at knowing that she is well and then says goodbye amicably, leaving with Sōjirō to enroll in school.

After entering the Graad Academy, Sōjirō asks Vassilios and Eulalia to keep a low profile as they are on an infiltration mission and need to go unnoticed to discover the identity of the enemy. Eulalia responds with confidence that will show them her ability to infiltrate. However, her amazing martial arts skills and beauty make her the center of attention, as does Vassilios, who immediately attracts the attention of his fellow students. This situation leaves Sōjirō dismayed, as they did not follow his recommendation.

As night falls, Eulalia separates herself from Vassilios and Sōjirō to investigate the school. As he walks the halls, he hears a beautiful piano melody and, suspecting that it might be a trap of the enemy, decides to find out its origin. When you get to the music classroom, you see Lucas playing the piano. Impressed by the melody, she enters quietly and, at the end of the piece, congratulates Lucas and comes to praise him. This causes Lucas to become nervous and blush, a gesture that Eulalia finds charming. However, this moment is interrupted when Lucas begins to feel intense pain and hears a voice in his head that urges him to claim Eulalia as his own. Eulalia approaches to help him, but a dark mist envelops the environment and three female Specters emerge from it. Sensing her cosmos, Eulalia identifies her enemies as simple soldiers. Then, he stands in front of Luke to protect him and wears the Scorpio Cloth, thus revealing his true identity.

A mysterious voice commands the Specters, referring to them as their puppets, to attack. Eulalia, realizing the threads that control them, counterattacks with his Scarlet Needle, firing energy from his index finger to destroy them. After freeing the girls from the influence of the enemy, she challenges the latter, warning him that he can face her whenever he wants, as he has no intention of fleeing or hiding. This exhibition impresses Lucas, who, amazed by Eulalia, begins to call her "his golden princess", revealing his desire that she be his. At the end of the confrontation, Eulalia approaches Lucas bragging about his strength, but at that moment she remembers the words of Sōjirō, who had told them to stay unnoticed. Therefore, he asks Lucas to keep secret what he has just seen and then says goodbye, leaving the place quickly.

As she walked out of school, Eulalia reflected on what had just happened to her. Just as he gets to the exit, he hits an invisible wall and upon closer inspection realizes that it is a cage-shaped barrier surrounding the entire Graad Academy. She immediately deduced that this was the work of the enemy and was proud of how her strategy to attract their attention had worked. Immediately, he sensed the cosmos of an Underworld Leader approaching and prepared to fight him, wearing his Scorpio Cloth. As he saw him coming out of a building, he recognized that it was Luke, who now presented himself as Minos and explained that Luke was a fragile soul that disappeared when he woke up. This infuriated Eulalia, who, just as Minos was about to attack, took the initiative and pierced his hand with his Scarlet Needle.

Minos is surprised to see that he managed to hurt him and immediately tries to catch her with his threads. Eulalia reacts quickly and dodges the threads with great dexterity and speed, although one manages to cut his cheek. This fact baffles Minos, since his threads of cosmos should be imperceptible and, during the previous Holy Wars, no one had managed to evade them. Therefore, he deduces that the Gold Saints of this generation have developed countermeasures. Eulalia explains that she has performed several simulations to face the Three Leaders of the Underworld and smiles when she considers him worthy of facing her. This gesture causes Minos to challenge her to show his power, to which she responds by attacking him with the Scarlet Needle, piercing his body fourteen times. While his opponent lies wounded on the ground, Eulalia explains how her technique offers him the opportunity to surrender or die, but she has no intention of giving him that choice and prepares to kill him with the Scarlet Needle: Antares.

As she prepares to attack him with Antares, Minos resorts to a dirty strategy by using Lucas' voice to prevent him from attacking. In this way, he takes advantage to counterattack with the Cosmic Marionation. Eulalia reacts nimbly, dodging the strings, but feels a pull on her face that makes it difficult to move. Then, Minos explains to him that when his cheek was injured by his previous attack, a smaller and imperceptible thread than the others stuck to his face. Thus, by means of that thread, he makes Eulalia unable to move to dodge his next attack, which captures her with several threads, leaving her suspended in the air. Minos approaches Eulalia and points out that his compassion prevented her from defeating him. He also explains that Lucas already wanted to own her even before he took over, which does not bother Eulalia, because she knows that the boys will be attracted by her beauty and considers that seeing them strive and surpass themselves in order to win their affection makes them beautiful. Amazed by his beauty and nobility, Minos proceeds to control his body like a puppet, breaking his bones one by one. Eulalia endures the pain, but realizes that she cannot free herself and begins to think about the plan that Tristan gave her for such a situation.

Minos continues to torture her until she breaks her 100th bone, causing Eulalia to scream in pain. This reaction surprises Minos, for until that moment she had avoided screaming, and he mentions that the scream was beautiful. In spite of the pain, Eulalia keeps her composure and warns Minos that she should have destroyed his claws before breaking all his bones. Minos responds by approaching her and breaking her finger with the one she was attacking. Taking advantage of her proximity, Eulalia attacks with her Scarlet Needle: Antares Kick, firing an energy projectile from the tip of her foot that pierces Minos' body and throws it flying against one of the school’s buildings. Eulalia, believing she has defeated her enemy, breaks free from the threads that kept her trapped. However, due to injuries, he falls to the ground unable to move. Despite this, he rejoices in his victory and thanks Tristan because, although things turned out to be more complicated than expected, his plan was effective [1]. He soon realizes that the cosmos of Minos has not yet disappeared. So she turns her gaze to where he is and observes how the Griffon Surplice separates from Lucas' body and moves away at full speed, without her being able to do anything to stop him.

After Yoruhime regained control of Griffon’s Surplice and the Specters defeated Seirim, the barrier that Seirim had created to isolate the Graaad Academy disappeared. Therefore, Eulalia was finally able to communicate telepathically with Sōjirō to inform him that she was injured and had all her bones broken. Upon receiving her call, Sōjirō rushed to the place where she was to help.

The arrival of Yaldabaoth[]

Sōjirō found Eulalia lying on the ground and immediately began to press her star points, while explaining that it would take time for her to recover. Eulalia replied that there was no problem, because once her bones were joined together a little, she could move with her willpower, but when she tried, great pain made her tremble. At that moment, Sōjirō’s cell phone started ringing and he saw on the screen that it was Theseus. When he answered, Theseus warned him that they should leave the place quickly, since Renge’s vision was about to be fulfilled and the evil god Yaldabaoth would manifest there. While Sōjirō was talking on the phone, Vassilios, also wounded, came and approached to see how Eulalia was. When the call ended, Sōjirō asked Vassilios why he was wounded. He explained that he had had a confrontation against Shedim and Seirim. Recognizing the name of Seirim, Sōjirō tells them that she had trapped him inside a barrier, and informs them about what Theseus had communicated to her. The three began to discuss about the awakening of Yaldabaoth and how Shedim and Seirim might be connected with it.

Suddenly, Shedim and Seirim appear in front of them. Sōjirō notices that Seirim is unharmed and asks him how it is possible. Seirim explains that he has 13 replicas and presents himself to them as the sixth. When Sōjirō asks if they plan to resurrect the evil god, Seirim reveals that yes and that she orchestrated the battles that took place that day to sacrifice the cosmos of the Saints and Specters, for these can resonate beyond time and dimensions, reaching even sealed gods in other dimensions. The sky over them begins to crack, and the Gold Saints feel a mighty cosmos approaching. Seirim explains that this cosmos belongs to their god and that by crossing the dimensional walls will cause an explosion capable of destroying the surrounding city, turning all its inhabitants into sacrifices for Yaldabaoth. Determined to avoid this catastrophe, Sōjirō concentrates his cosmos to prevent the god from being released from his prison. Seirim and Shedim try to stop him, but Vassilios and Eulalia, despite their injuries, prepare to face them.

Eulalia is the first to enter combat, attacking Seirim with her Scarlet Needle. In response, Seirim casts her Medallion Shield to protect herself. Observing that his shield stops the attack, Seirim concludes that Eulalia is not in a position to face it. However, their surprise comes when the projectile turns into a vortex that pierces the shield. Eulalia warns him that he should never have underestimated her, revealing that the attack was really his Scarlet Needle Vortex. The projectile hits Seirim’s head, causing his helmet to fly off and leaving a wound on his forehead. In the face of this, Seirim congratulates his opponent and promises to make her the first sacrifice for Yaldabaoth, while a macabre smile is drawn on his face.

Abilities[]

  • As a Saint he can control the energy known as cosmos.
  • The Saints have the power to tear the sky with their fists and break the earth with their kicks.
  • Like Gold Saint, he can travel and fight at the speed of light (300,000 kilometers per second) and, thanks to the Gold Cloth he wears, he can withstand the cold down to -273.15°C, that is, absolute zero.
  • Absolute confidence: Never gives up or dispirited.
  • Eulalia possesses mastery of psychic abilities.
    • Telepathy: Has the ability to communicate with others mentally, even when they are several meters away
  • Eulalia has an extraordinary vision that allows her to perceive objects imperceptible or invisible in the eyes of a common human. This was clearly demonstrated when he could visualize the invisible threads used in Griffon’s Specter Cosmic Marionation, as well as the shape of the invisible barrier covering the Graad Academy. However, his sight is not infallible, as was evidenced when he was unable to detect some of the threads of Minos that had adhered to his cheek.
  • She is a powerful Gold Saint who, thanks to the combination of her power and a perfected fighting style to face her enemies, managed without major difficulties to overcome Minos, one of the Three Judges of the Underworld.
  • Eulalia has an impressive tolerance for pain, being able to withstand that Minos fracture him one by one up to a hundred bones of his body, without emitting a single scream. In addition, even after suffering these serious injuries, he manages to move his injured right leg to strike back with enough force to seriously injure the Specter of Griffon.

Notes[]

  • The character’s technical sheet, included in Volume 5, also describes his hobbies, tastes and aversions.
    • Hobbies: Artistic appreciation.
    • Tastes: Black tea, wagashi and movies.
    • Dislikes: The immoral, the irrational and meditation.
  • She is the youngest of two women holding the title of Gold Saint in Saint Seiya: Meiō Iden - Dark Wing.
  • She is the third woman holding the title of Scorpio Saint in the Saint Seiya franchise, being the first Scorpio Sonia in Saint Seiya Ω and the second Scorpio Milo in Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary. Although it is the first time a woman has worn the Scorpio Cloth in a manga, likewise, she and Libra’s Kōgetsuki are the first women in a manga of the franchise to hold the rank of Gold Saint within the army of Athena.
  • It is unknown why Eulalia does not wear a mask, as other Saints in the Saint Seiya franchise. It is important to note that she is not the only woman who appears without a mask, as the students of Aiolos, who were trained to become Saints, do not wear it either. Therefore, it is possible that the use of the mask is optional in the universe in which the story of Dark Wing takes place.
